Tucked away in an area of Houston known for its eclectic mix of people, there is a hidden gem of filled with art and artifacts that celebrates the art and history of printing.

The Printing Museum of Houston is truly one of my favorite places in Houston. It is the type of place that makes you realize how much we take printing and its skill for granted.

The museum has partnered with AIGA Houston (American Institute of Graphic Arts) for an exhibition called AIGA Get Out the Vote: Empowering the Women’s Vote. To say that the year 2020 has been interesting would be an understatement. Considering all that, 2020 also marks the centennial of the 19th Amendment that granting women the right to vote in 1920. However, it was not until the passage of the Voting Rights Act in 1965 that voting rights for ALL women and people of color in the South were protected and enforced.

The Get Out the Vote initiative invited women of design to submit poster designs to launch the project. Through these posters, these women used their vision and voices to spark dialogue in design and society. The collection creatively promotes present-day voter participation and serves as a platform to raise awareness for voting rights and equality.

The exhibit is on display until January 23, 2021. It is a must see. I have no doubt that your first visit to the Printing Museum will not be your last. For more info, visit printingmusem.org
